Baidu, which earlier this year announced the formation of an autonomous driving team in the US, Baidu USA, is to begin testing its autonomous technologies in California. The California Department of Motor Vehicles awarded the company an Autonomous Vehicle Testing Permit earlier this week.
The US Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) recently teamed up to test vehicle to infrastructure communications technology for Army vehicles along I-69.
According to MDOT, the testing, which was the first step to eventual autonomous operations of Army line-haul convoys and included direct communications between Army trucks and roadside units deployed by MDOT, was a success.

Belgian public transport operator STIB is to test three diesel-electric hybrid standard bus prototypes from manufacturers IVECO, Solaris and Volvo on route 64 in Brussels for two months, beginning in August 2017, with the aim of acquiring 235 hybrid buses within two years.
Japanese car maker Nissan is to begin its first real-world demonstrations of autonomous cars in London in February. Passengers, including government officials and technical and safety experts, will be given the opportunity to experience and test the technology in a live environment in a modified Nissan Leaf.
