Chinese artificial intelligence company Baidu has tested two self-driving cars for the first time along a 33km section of an unused expressway in Tianjin City. A news report says that the trial helped developers collect data on the cars’ performance and their ability to sense the road environment. The test site is part of the Tangshan-Langfang expressway, which is scheduled to open in the Hebei province later this year.
UK-based Rfpro has launched a commercially available platform to train and develop autonomous vehicles (AVs) in simulation. The innovation is said to reduce the costs and time involved in developing these vehicles as well as provide a safe testing environment. The solution intends to replicate the real word to allow the various sensors of AVs to react naturally. In addition, Rfpro is producing a library of real roads created through precise scanning technology, to help form the basis of the simulation.

N3 Toll Concession (N3TC), the company responsible for the N3 toll route between Heidelberg in Gauteng and Cedara in KwaZulu-Natal, has begun testing of its electronic toll collection (ETC) System in selected toll plaza lanes.
N3TC aims to implement electronic toll collection (ETC) as an additional convenient payment method for vehicles fitted with electronic tags. It is envisaged that ETC will be implemented at all plazas along the N3 Toll Route during the latter part of 2015.
