Free evaluation and testing of transportation systems and products might seem too good to be true - but it isn’t. Colin Sowman reports. Texas A&M University is offering to host transport technology demonstrations and research projects free of charge at its Main and newly-renamed Rellis campuses. The initiative’s aim is to encourage those with technologies that could improve transportation to bring their products, systems and ideas to Texas A&M’s campus where they can be evaluated, tested and demonstrated.
Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) is to conduct a six month trial of over-height vehicle sensors along a stretch of Upper Bukit Timah Road in a bid to prevent drivers hitting overhead road structures with a 4.5m clearance. If the pilot is successful it may be extended to more locations.
When the system senses an approaching over-height vehicle, it will display a visual warning to alert the driver that his vehicle may hit the structure.

Autonomous driving specialist 2getthere is to test self-driving electric buses for deployment at Brussels Airport. The tests will be carried out at 2getthere’s site in Utrecht next year without passengers, with a view to further testing at the airport itself in 2020 on a route in the Brucargo business zone.

Virgin Hyperloop One (VHO) is designing a Hyperloop portal near Denver National Airport as part of a test project in Colorado. Once completed, the service is intended to provide citizens with fast travel connections to work and leisure destinations, VHO says.
Last year, the company partnered with the Colorado Department of Transportation and engineering firm Aecom to examine the technological and economic feasibility of a Hyperloop system in the state.
