Cities can now provide their inhabitants and visitors with a new mobile application, City App from 3264 PTV Group. Whether looking for tourist information, events, transport information or the latest mobility options, users can access all the information about their city – on a single app.

PTV Group developed the initial city app for Karlsruhe, Germany. The app has been available free of charge since 2014, and in April 2015, the product expanded to include real-time transport information. The latest updates on traffic, roadworks, parking spaces and park-and-ride options are regularly uploaded along with corresponding public transport timetables.

“City App helps agencies be more responsive to citizens,” said Steve Perone, president, traffic software, PTV Group. “This new solution can be customized to each city’s need, enabling public agencies to leverage their information across business sectors.”

PTV Group debuted the new app at the 2015 International
Transport Forum in Leipzig, Germany, in May.

Smarter transport relies on better communications both with travellers and between transport providers. Andrew Williams reports. Inrix’s prediction that the cost of traffic congestion will rise by 63% to £21bn per year by 2030 clearly illustrates that, in addition to the ongoing inconvenience and inefficiency, ongoing gridlock is a significant drain on the economy.
