Precise costs and emissions for uphill driving

RSSGermany-headquartered 3264 PTV has announced the new map&guide service pack that significantly improves the calculation of pollutant emissions in road transport. The software now includes altitude data for all European countries so that transport operators have access to precise information on CO2 emissions and other pollutants depending on uphill and downhill gradients. Consequently, the software delivers results that are far more precise and meaningful. Moreover, PTV states that costs (diesel consumption) can be determined more reliably for the pre-calculation of transport services.

The software uses a 50m grid for the calculation of gradients, plus the emission values for routes with different longitudinal gradients (in intervals of 0.5 per cent) provided by the HBEFA (Handbook Emission Factors for Road Transport).

In light of the VW emissions testing scandal, FIA Region I continues to urge the introduction of a more rigorous testing procedure for vehicle emissions and fuel consumption in the EU. Although vehicles are passing the tests, a growing body of evidence shows that virtually no vehicle, whether diesel or petrol, can comply with emissions levels achieved in testing when in real-world settings. The FIA and its members have consistently supported the introduction of a robust test cycle and real driving emiss

  • ARTBA proposes path to breaking gridlock on transportation funding
    March 13, 2015
The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) has outlined a detailed proposal it believes could end the political impasse over how to fund future federal investments in state highway, bridge and transit capital projects. The ‘Getting beyond gridlock’ plan would marry a 15 cents-per-gallon increase in the federal gas and diesel motor fuels tax with a 100 per cent offsetting federal tax rebate for middle and lower income Americans for six years. The plan, ARTBA says, would fund a US$401 bil
