SmartCycle bicycle detection

73 Iteris, a leader in providing information solutions to the transportation market, will introduce innovative enhancements to the company’s state-of-the art transportation solutions at the ITS World Congress in Bordeaux. Safety plays a major role in Iteris products and solutions and as the company points out, with more bicycles on the road throughout the world, safety is a growing concern. To address this, Iteris says its SmartCycle bicycle detection and differentiation product provides the capability of distinguishing bicycles from other vehicles on the road. Through the use of an enhanced algorithm, SmartCycle has the capability of making streets safer by extending green times for cyclists.

Another safety product Iteris will feature in Bordeaux is the company’s Vantage Vector Hybrid sensor that can provide detailed Dilemma Zone detection. This unique product offers stop bar and advanced-zone detection with a single sensor, and enables advanced safety and adaptive control applications.

Iteris is also involved in major aspects of the global Connected Vehicles initiative through multimodal travel options, real-time traveller information, communications, security, and the equipment that detects, collects, and distributes the data.

As Iteris points out, the company has been a global leader in ITS Solutions for 20 years, with over 120,000 Vantage Video Detection units installed worldwide. The company has successfully deployed ITS Solutions in Europe, Africa, Middle East Asia and Latin America.

    Iteris highlights SmartCycle Bike Indicator
Iteris is highlighting the new SmartCycle Bike Indicator. A first of its kind, the indicator is a low-cost solution to cyclist uncertainty at red lights. It provides confirmation to vulnerable bike riders that their presence has been detected and they will be given the appropriate green light timing to safely get through the intersection. The illumination control module seamlessly works with Iteris video detection processors that employ the SmartCycle algorithm. The highly accurate algorithm, currently in
