The 657 Kistler Group is showcasing its comprehensive KiTraffic Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) solutions, which support road owners and authorities in road and traffic monitoring, weight enforcement and weight-based tolling. The extended service package facilitates a wide range of applications and ensures high performance throughout the system’s lifecycle.

KiTraffic Plus is a new WIM solution for automated road monitoring. Applications include weight enforcement and toll-by-weight. With its Lineas quartz sensors, KiTraffic Plus can measure vehicle loads at different speeds and on a virtually infinite number of lanes.

The open and scalable system now operates using two to eight sensors per lane. A flexible and expandable solution, it can be combined with camera systems for vehicle identification, among other applications. The data is processed in a protected roadside cabinet and the results and analyses are available in real-time via web-based HMI or API interface transfers.

KiTraffic Statistics is a compact, cost-efficient WIM solution, which incorporates newly developed sensors and pre-wired components for a quick and easy installation. Its new Lineas Compact quartz sensors are integrated into the road itself, 25 mm below the surface, and are covered with a grouting compound, which ensures an extended sensor lifetime while providing accurate data for traffic data collection.

KiTraffic Statistics offers the same benefits as KiTraffic Plus – robustness and flexibility – at a limited scope of functionality. It is ideal for customers who simply want an overview of road usage. The system offers reliable Weigh-in-Motion features at a great value for money.

IRD to install WIM sorting system in South Dakota
International Road Dynamics (IRD) is to install its Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) sorting system to protect road infrastructure in the US state of South Dakota. The $1.3 million deal is part of a wider ambition from the South Dakota Department of Transportation to deploy more WIM systems throughout the state. The Port of Entry Commercial Vehicle WIM Sorting System is scheduled to be operational by December 2019 at the Valley Springs Port of Entry on Interstate 90 east of Sioux Falls. It is expected to weigh all

Cestel showcases non-invasive WIM solution for bridges
Cestel says its MkIII SiWIM technology turns any bridge into a fully automatic weigh-in-motion system without disturbing the road surface. Sensors are fixed to the underside of the bridge deck beneath up to four lanes of traffic and the system is calibrated with vehicles of known weight passing individually, in opposite directions and in various combinations depending on the road layout. Having been calibrated, an algorithm then interprets the information to determine the number, weights, speed and

CAMEA WIM is type approved and turnkey for weigh-in-motion
CAMEA WIM, developed and manufactured by CAMEA image and signal processing, is a turnkey solution for weigh-in-motion applications, from traffic reports to enforcement. According to CAMEA, the high speed system allows vehicles thought to be overloaded to be pre-selected and directed to a precise weigh station without impact on traffic flow. The CAMEA WIM – type approved for weight enforcement in the Czech Republic – also provides rich sets of traffic data in database format for export in standard formats.

New technology is changing the Weigh In Motion landscape
Exciting new weigh in motion solutions were showcased at Intertraffic. Guy Woodford reports For many years weigh-in-motion (WIM) has been used solely as a filtering mechanism to detect potentially overloaded vehicles, but introductions at Intertraffic may see that change. At the Intertraffic exhibition to unveil its Apollo range of British-manufactured axle weighbridges was Applied Traffic. The in-motion and static axle-by-axle weighing system offers slow speed and portable weighing solutions suitable for
