The 78 JAI range of camera sub-systems, camera components and LED flashes is suitable for most ITS applications requiring 24-hour operation, including tolling, speed control and access control.

JAI’s Viscam traffic imaging sub-system allows users to configure various traffic imaging components into a high performance, network-based architecture to meet the needs of virtually any traffic application.

The newest Viscam 1000 systems combine a complete set of imaging hardware, including camera, lens, light sensor, illumination, image processing, and more inside an all-in-one enclosure that delivers outstanding image quality while supporting quick deployments and reduced infrastructure costs.

JAI also offers a complete selection of high performance, high resolution digital cameras for integration directly into traffic systems. The cameras include a range of features tailored for traffic and outdoor imaging requirements and include the Spark SP-5000 high-speed five megapixel CMOS camera with automatic level control and the AB-800GE 8-megapixel CCD camera with automatic level control and high signal-to-noise ratio.

JAI also offers powerful flashes in near infrared, white or blue wavelength configurations to illuminate both vehicle and scene details for free-flow traffic applications.

Motorists drive to a location to do something, not to park. Minimising the effort required to park is the aim of a new system that integrates EasyPark’s new in-car parking payment app with the forthcoming Volvo Sensus Connect in-car information and navigation system. When a motorist parks up, at a location suggested by Sensus Connect close to the driver’s stated destination, they receive a message on the dashboard display asking if they wish to start a parking transaction.

Visitors to the ITS America Annual Meeting will have an opportunity of seeing a new wireless roadway detection system from Trafficware. Operating under a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) patent in an exclusive license agreement, the company’s engineers developed the Valence Pod, a wireless system that uses roadway sensors to detect the presence of vehicles. The device can be used individually for a smaller zone or grouped with other Pods to create a larger, smarter detection zone. The omni-direct

The German Aerospace Centre DLR has arrived at the 2012 ITS World Congress with a unique system for rail safety – for preventing collisions between trains and improving safety for track workers. Whereas conventional train collision avoidance systems involve networks of base stations, DLR’s Railway Collision Avoidance System (RCAS) uses direct communication between trains or hand held devices without expensive infrastructure and so with substantial reduction in cost. “RCAS communication is via the Tetra stan
