Continuing its tradition of innovation through video detection algorithm work, 73 Iteris is highlighting its new Pedtrax feature, an innovation on a par with Smartcycle, the world’s first bicycle detection and differentiation feature. With Pedtrax, Iteris is adding pedestrian measurement capabilities to its industry-leading advanced video detection systems.

Pedtrax automates measurement of both the count, direction, and speed of pedestrians in crosswalks to provide insights on levels of street life. With this enhanced data set, Iteris says that transportation officials can help make cities safer for pedestrians. Better-informed decisions can be made based on foot traffic volume and speed to optimise signal timing, and to inform proactive improvements to signage and striping, intersection design, school, crossing guard deployment and even economic development programs.

Pedtrax presents reliable, current data for grant applications and performance monitoring with documented down-to-the-minute data as well as seasonal trends in pedestrian traffic patterns.

Iteris says its new company tagline, 'Innovating Through Informatics', provides a platform for turning big data into breakthrough solutions by equipping their customers with optimum systems and analysis tools to make transportation safer and more efficient.

The company has been a global leader in ITS Solutions for 20 years, with over 120,000 Vantage Video Detection units installed worldwide and its ITS solutions deployed in North America, Australia, Middle East, Asia and Latin America.

Iteris introduces SmartCycle and Vantage Vector Hybrid
Iteris is using Intertraffic to introduce two important safety innovations. The first is a new video-based bicycle detection system, SmartCycle, which the company says has the unique capability of distinguishing bicycles from other vehicles on the road in any lane. This process provides a special output that is sent to the traffic controller to extend the green time when bicycles are detected, allowing them to safely cross the intersection before the light changes. “Cycling is a way of life in Amsterd

    Iteris enhances SmartCycle cycle detection
Iteris has released a third generation SmartCycle cycle detection and differentiation algorithm for its Vantage video detection platform. SmartCycle provides the unique capability of distinguishing cycles from other vehicles across all lanes of traffic. When a cycle is detected at an intersection, the system extends the green light for that phase, ensuring the cyclist is able to safely cross the intersection. This new generation enhances the accuracy and capabilities of the system to detect and diff
