Singapore-headquartered 8503 ATT Systems Group is highlighting its iTU system which has been designed to detect, monitor and analyse human, vehicle and other objects of interest. This compact and industrial grade electronic unit also works coherently with more than one type of sensor to form an intelligent expert system. It is capable of monitoring moving objects with speeds from 15km/h to 120km/h on both pathways and expressways when integrated with the appropriate sensors. Advance sensor technology detects and classifies fast moving objects and it can determine directional behaviour using a virtual line across pathways.

The Blaxtair construction machine-mounted vision-based alert system distinguishes pedestrians from other objects, providing a visual/audible alarm to both driver and pedestrian when a person is in a position of danger. The intelligent camera system, from French company Arcure, is an obstacle detection device and pedestrian recognition equipment. It is capable of detecting all types of obstacles, locating them precisely with respect to the machine and determining whether an obstacle is a pedestrian or not.

It was four years ago that Volvo introduced its City Safety collision avoidance system which is designed to reduce the number and severity of low-speed accidents to the US market. However, a study in America by the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) has shown that the results may not be as good as initially indicated by an earlier report. According to Volvo, statistics show that 75% of reported collisions occur at speeds of up to 30km/h (18.6mph) typically in urban traffic and in slow-moving traffic queues
