Autonomous shuttle provider Holon is to present its Holon Urban vehicle with a newly-developed interior at UITP Summit 2025 in Hamburg, which runs from 15-18 June.

In August, the vehicle will be deployed in its first real-world pilot – the Alike project in partnership with Hamburg's transit agency Hamburger Hochbahn.

Holon says the new interior emphasises the 'two-senses' principle, which means it is designed with the idea that passengers will use at least two senses in their interactions with it.

For example, this could combine high-contrast visual elements - such as colour-coded handrails - and auditory signals, with a view to ensuring accessibility for all passengers.

To emphasise this 'barrier-free accessibility', the Holon Urban offers an automated ramp and a secured wheelchair space.

Holon says materials used in the interior have been chosen to ensure easy cleaning and low-maintenance operation, "without compromising on high-quality design".

Holon Urban is fully electric, seats up to 15 passengers, and can be used both on fixed routes and as an on-demand service, with a top speed of 60km/h (37mph).

The company says it offers complete, ready-to-deploy systems which can be tailored to the needs of public transport operators, city authorities, university campuses and airports.

The rise and rise of robo-car
When it comes to driverless cars, there are many variables – but one thing is for certain: autonomous driving will have a significant impact on vehicle design, says Andreas Herrmann The transition to autonomous vehicles (AVs) means that many of the factors which have shaped automotive design for the past 130 years no longer apply. At present, the design of a car is largely determined by the anticipated direction of travel: the car’s silhouette immediately shows where the front and back are. Driverless ve
