2213 Hitachi Solutions, in conjunction with Renesas, launched a new V2X system during this week’s ITS World Congress. This new V2X is designed to enable safer driving assistance, increase driving comfort and enable vehicles to communicate with each other, as well as communicating with traffic infrastructure.

In real time, the system’s on-board sensors scan the surrounding environment and supply the information back to the driver via an on-board unit with alerts for the driver to approaching emergency vehicles, road works and traffic congestion.

The system also times a ‘count down’ ensuring the driver is completely aware of immediate traffic conditions.

At least not according to the OECD 2013 report Cycling, Health and Safety which contains the statement: ‘Cyclists are often forgotten in the design of the road traffic system’. Looking through the statistics that exist (each country appears to compile them differently) it is not difficult to see how such a conclusion cou

A series of 'driver clinics' is under way across five states, as vehicle manufacturers and the US Government pin their hopes on connected vehicles becoming the next big advance in road safety. Pete Goldin reports. What would a car say if it could talk? Its first words might be: "Here I am". Many vehicles are communicating that very message to each other right now. Admittedly, this is in controlled environments of US Department of Transportation (USDoT) tests, but within the next few years 'connected vehicle
