Toyota is trialling a new driver information system which, if successful, could start to appear in Japanese cities around 2015. Trials started in March this year. The Next Generation Vehicle Infrastructure Co-operation Service consists of sensors mounted on city streets that communicate with vehicles by radio. Vehicles would require an onboard unit to receive the data.
The information is particularly designed to help drivers in crowded urban streets whose visibility is obscured by large vehicles such as
Australian firm Saferoads is offering an improved roadside protection product in the shape of its new Omni Stop Bollard. The product is suited to installations such as around construction workzones or pedestrian and commercial areas, where there may be site personnel or people congregating alongside a busy roadway. The Omni Stop Bollards can be spaced so as to allow free access for pedestrians or cyclists, while providing protection from errant vehicles.
McCain, manufacturer and supplier of intelligent transportation systems, traffic control equipment and parking guidance solutions, will use the ITS America Annual Meeting to debut the new and improved Transparity TMS (Traffic Management System) which has been completely redesigned on a modern platform to provide dependable monitoring and command of signalised intersections.
For many attendees, this ITS World Congress will be their first exposure to IRD’s VectorSense sensor suite – a new technology recently introduced at the ITS Europe conference in Helsinki. An operating model was later demonstrated at the 2014 NatMec conference in Chicago.
