Flir’s new sensor detects fire in rail coaches

6778 Flir Systems’ RSX-F sensor combines its Lepton thermal sensor with high-definition visual imaging for fire and occupancy detection as well as CCTV monitoring to provide fire detection inside rail coaches.

The RSX-F has onboard fire detection algorithms to detect a fire using the thermal energy emitted while video detection algorithms determine the size, rate of temperature increase and movement to reduce false alarms by distinguishing hazards such as cigarettes or lighters.

The EN50155 compliant sensor also measures seat occupancy, allowing train operators to optimise passenger flow or improve passenger comfort by sensing temperature-adjusting train-based HVAC systems. It mounts easily to walls or ceilings and tilts up to 45° for optimal viewing.

Image Sensing Systems (ISS) has added the RTMS Sx-300 radar sensor with HD camera to its traffic management product line, a combination the company says provides an all-in-one radar sensor for roadways detection. The RTMS Sx-300 HDCAM allows the user to verify the zone setup across all lanes and facilitate real-time visual traffic surveillance and its high definition camera also has dual streaming video channels.
  • Transportation applications move to machine vision’s mainstream

The adaptation of machine vision to transport applications continues apace. That the machine vision industry is taking traffic installations seriously is evident by the amount of hardware and software products tailor-made for ITS applications that are now available on the market. A good example comes from US-based Gridsmart Technologies which has developed a single wire fisheye camera that provides a horizon to horizon view for use at intersections. Not only does the single camera replace four or more in a
