43 Efkon arrives in Amsterdam having recently delivered what it says is the first enforcement system to monitor Austrian road operator Asfinag’s new digital motorway vignette.

Before legislation came into effect on 1 December, a digital vignette went on sale which proves payment of the Austrian road tax for vehicles weighing less than 3.5t.

To support Asfinag’s toll enforcement officers, the system uses video technology to determine whether passing cars have a valid digital vignette. Positioned on the roadside, the system takes high-resolution images of the passing vehicles without interrupting the traffic flow and if it determines that a car does not have a valid vignette, the information is transmitted to Asfinag’s enforcement staff.

By combining all necessary functions in a single unit, and with simplified installation, it is possible to regularly re-locate the device.

“Tell us what you need in markings and we’ll deliver it.” That’s the message to potential European clients says Michael Stenko, chief executive of Transpo Industries, based near New York. Transpo manufactures to customer requirements surface and pavement markings for roads and airfields, as well as the Visi-Barrier, a precast polymer concrete barrier panel. A big issue for many local authorities and contractors is delivery of enough pavement marking for when they need it, where they need it and on time.
