The Netherlands has the ambition to head the field in the area of cooperative ITS and smart mobility.

The country needs innovative mobility solutions to keep its urban delta open, healthy and safe and to support economic growth. For the Netherlands, ITS creates an opportunity to foster innovation and strengthen its competitive position within supplier- and after-markets.

Thanks to the country’s highly developed and dense traffic network, the Netherlands is eminently suitable as a development and large-scale deployment site for cooperative ITS in Europe.

On the Dutch EU Pavilion on Smart Mobility in the Innovation Hall (Hall 9) at Intertraffic Amsterdam, the Netherlands will be presented as a test bed, sales market for smart mobility services, and provider of new breakthrough solutions that are ready-made products and services. The stand will demonstrate what the Netherlands has to offer to governments, industry and knowledge institutes who are willing to put their smart mobility solutions to the test. This ranges from simulations, controlled test environments to tests on public roads.

The Netherlands not only offers infrastructure but also an organised structure for realising shared evaluation criteria and standards on how to accomplish results in a changing field of public and private interests. The country has renowned knowledge clusters in the automotive and technology field and offers a unique combination of automotive knowledge and expertise, manufacturing and high-tech industry.

Roadmap

During the last Intertraffic Amsterdam in 2014 Connekt, innovation network for smart, sustainable and social mobility, organized the Dutch Pavilion together with 11 of its members. The theme of the pavilion was Global Challenges Dutch Solutions. This year, Connekt coordinates the pavilion together with Connecting Mobility, the organisation implementing the roadmap ‘Better informed on the Road’ in the Netherlands. The aim of this roadmap is to realise innovative mobility solutions so that the Netherlands continues to have a good quality of life and remains accessible and safe. To enable this, six transition paths in the roadmap were appointed to control the direction of the developments.

Participating organisations

This year the pavilion will have a Dutch - EU focus for participants such as EU Truck Platooning Challenge 2016 and CGI both cooperate on a European level. 6784 Connekt will present solutions concerning Mobility as a Service (MaaS) and films of projects carried out by the Dutch Automated Vehicle Initiative.

8352 Connecting Mobility will present what has been achieved since 2014 within the roadmap and six national ITS Roundtables on preconditions such as privacy, security and human behaviour, and what the six transition routes entail.

Besides Connekt and Connecting Mobility, together with DITCM Innovations and the Traffic Innovation Centre, other entities such as NMi, OMALA, RDW, CGI, Goudappel Group, Flister, Satel, Simacan, EU Truck Platooning Challenge 2016, National Data Warehouse for Traffic Information, Eindhoven University of Technology, TNO, Grontmij, Vialis and the VID (Traffic Information Service) have teamed up at the Dutch EU Pavilion.

NMi will present its average speed system, the next step in enforcement.

OMALA promotes an urban test area for self-driving vehicles and ITS, while RDW will demonstrate a digital infrastructure built to support new developments in parking such as real-time parking information for visitors and mobile payment with the use of a smartphones. CGI will present a number of proven IT solutions in the field of mobility with their Mobility360 portfolio, a compilation of various initiatives to help make drivers spend less time in their van/truck, drive more economically and safer and ensure less traffic and a better flow on the road.

Goudappel focuses on Smart Urban Traffic Data, while Flister presents its connected traffic data platform to enable in-car early warning for road users.

Satel shows tools for Traffic Light Priority and Priority Vehicles and Simacan will demonstrate different solutions on making geospatial, traffic, and logistic data better available, usable, accessible, and shareable for other organizations.

The EU Truck Platooning Challenge 2016 will show live footage from the truck platoons on the ITS Corridor to the Netherlands. NDW will demonstrate how data collected by 19 public authorities is used to provide traffic information, to ensure effective traffic management, and to conduct accurate traffic analyses.

TNO focuses on Smart & Reliable Mobility with solutions for reducing traffic casualties and automated and cooperative driving and Eindhoven University highlights the many opportunities for tackling mobility problems with technological solutions by putting more intelligence in the mobility system.

Meanwhile, Grontmij will demonstrate the possibilities of cooperative traffic management. Vialis will inform Intertraffic visitors about their new solutions for smart and sustainable use of infrastructure and VID presents its various ways of monitoring traffic flows.
