33 Delta will, as usual, be present at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018 showing and demonstrating its range of retroreflectometer instruments. Since the last event, the company has launched RetroSign GRX, its third-generation instrument for measuring retroreflection of road traffic signs, high visibility clothing, conspicuity tapes and number plates.

RetroSign GRX is able to measure up to seven observation angles simultaneously, up to eight entrance angles using smart adapters, and offers many new features like automatic detection of sign colour, picture of sign, sign colour contrast, sign orientation and tilt, built-in measurement structure and instant pass-fail function.

Delta says the RetroSign GRX is the superior instrument in the market, offering more features than any other road traffic sign retroreflectometer, yet still is very easy to calibrate and operate. Data is processed and presented in existing software like Excel and Google Earth.

Besides RetroSign GRX, Delta will feature its other well-known instruments like the LTL-M, the market-leading mobile marking retroreflectometer, LTL-XL and LTL-X Mark II hand-held marking instruments and Marking Thickness Gauge. The company also plans to unveil a first version of a new measurement device on its stand.

It would be easy to fall into the trap of seeing machine vision as the vision-based solution for ITS and traffic, however Patrik Anderson, Director Business Development Transportation of Axis Communications, notes that many of the applications which are coming to be associated with machine vision – and, indeed, many of the characteristics, such as at-the-edge analytics and image processing – are also possible with open-standard networked video. Networked video brings a whole host of advantages, such as the

Telematics Technology's Peter Billington describes the effort to give English local authorities and police forces a UTMC ANPR open communication protocol. The story of the impact of communication protocols on the development and utilisation of intelligent equipment is a familiar one both inside and outside the ITS industry. At the outset, a company pioneering its latest technology invariably develops a proprietary protocol. This enables the company's products to talk to the customer systems which need to a

Reflective Measurement Systems (RMS) is showing the latest addition to its range of dynamic retroreflectometers, the RetroTek-MU (US version). Its counterpart RetroTek-M is already available worldwide, excluding the US. The Irish company says the RetroTek-MU is the first dynamic mobile retroreflectometer certified to ASTM E 1710 and has the ability to simultaneously measure the retroreflectivity of road striping and markings across the full width of a traffic lane in a single pass. RetroTek-MU also

Exciting new weigh in motion solutions were showcased at Intertraffic. Guy Woodford reports For many years weigh-in-motion (WIM) has been used solely as a filtering mechanism to detect potentially overloaded vehicles, but introductions at Intertraffic may see that change. At the Intertraffic exhibition to unveil its Apollo range of British-manufactured axle weighbridges was Applied Traffic. The in-motion and static axle-by-axle weighing system offers slow speed and portable weighing solutions suitable for
