Enzio Schneider of Basler displays the IP camera
Germany-headquartered camera manufacturer 7094 Basler is here at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2014 with a an extensive selection of ace GigE and ace USB cameras as well as IP cameras suitable for ITS applications, and also to present the world premiere of a new IP network camera feature with real-time trigger function and YUV output format.

The implementation of the unique real-time trigger function to record individual JPEG images of specific events, such as traffic violations, parallel to the video stream was a ground-breaking innovation but Basler has expanded this trigger function to include yet another option: Basler IP cameras can now also produce uncompressed images (YUV) that deliver the maximum possible detail.

The images are sent directly to the PC in uncompressed form, involving a relatively large volume of data. However, the benefit is that no image information is lost in the compression process, so algorithms such as LPR (licence plate recognition) produce significantly better results than for compressed images such as JPEG or even H.264.

The first model with this YUV feature will be the BIP2-1600-25c-dn with its highly sensitive 2 MP sensor. Basler says this camera is the ideal choice for any type of licence plate recognition. It has already proven its value in a variety of security and enforcement applications, and is particularly attractive in the LPR field for tasks like dragnet investigations.
