ABB launches EV chargers for US and Europe

ABB has launched its Terra SmartConnect (SC) fast chargers for electric vehicles (EV) in North America. 4540 ABB has launched its Terra SmartConnect (SC) fast chargers for electric vehicles (EV) in North America.

Terra SC can fully charge an electric car in thirty to 120 minutes and will be available with support for the CHAdeMO fast-charging standard, with SAE/combined charging system and will be available in the Americas in the second quarter of 2013.

The charger has a full-colour eight inch touchscreen user interface, smart connectivity features and wall-mount connections, as well as optional features of RFiD and PIN code authorisation, and a web-based statistics module with data per user to support energy usage reporting.

The Terra 53C will be available throughout Europe from summer 2013, and is the first 50 kilowatts CCS DC fast charging station said to be compliant with 1731 BMW i3, 994 Volkswagen e-up! and e-Golf, as well as other CCS cars. 

The cloud connected Terra 53 is compatible with any charging network or payment and billing platform through open standards based interfaces, such as open charge point protocol (OCPP), enabling easy and secure payments via smart-phone, parking management terminals, RFID or pin code access.

    ABB delivers 20 EV chargers to Egypt

    4540 ABB is supplying 20 DC fast chargers across Egypt which it says can recharge electric vehicles (EVs) in 15 minutes.

    The company says the deployment supports Egypt’s plans to reduce air pollution by 50% by 2023.

    The Terra 53 DC fast chargers are being installed at National Petroleum Company gas stations across the country’s road network, car dealerships and busy urban areas.

    Each charger comes with ABB Ability connected services, which continuously collects data to remotely monitor and control the operation of the chargers.
