Eric Sampson, senior congress programme advisor, will present this year’s programme by highlighting some of the most engaging sessions and events of the week, including the opening ceremony, the three plenary sessions and the closing sessions, as well as the eco-driving competition, the White Night and more.

Didier Gorteman, director of Congresses, will introduce the 2014 Congress App available now for download for iPhone/iPad, 1812 Android and Windows Phone. The mobile application provides details of all activities during the week with a live newsfeed on events as they happen and access to the interactive programme.

Technical tours scheduled to take place during the congress include: Icebreaker base of Finland; Smart Parking by Finnpark and the ITS Factory in the city of Tampere; Finnish Meteorological Institute; Finnish Transport Agency; Traffic Management Centre of Helsinki Metropolitan Area; 814 VTT Technical Research Centre; Finnish Transport Safety Agency Trafi & UAR Finland; 144 Vaisala; and Finnish Science Centre Heureka.

    The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has found that an Uber autonomous vehicle which killed Elaine Herzberg last year had software flaws. NTSB released a report which says the Volvo XC60’s autonomous system software classified the pedestrian as an unknown object and determined that an emergency braking manoeuvre was needed to mitigate the collision.     French car manufacturer Groupe PSA says its ‘free-floating’ car-share service provides members in Washington, DC with access to 600 vehicles. The Free2Move service is available to drivers for a $10 membership fee and does not include late fees, per trip fees or insurance charges, the company adds.
