Waymo has launched its autonomous ride-hail service in Atlanta, GA, on the Uber app, in a 65-square-mile area of the city.

Riders who request an UberX, Comfort or Comfort Electric - from Downtown to Buckhead to Capitol View - could be matched with a fully-autonomous, electric Waymo Jaguar I-Pace vehicle – at no additional cost.

Users will get a pop-up on their screen if they have been matched, and can click to accept.

It means the city - which will host ITS World Congress 2025 in August - joins Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin and Phoenix in the Waymo network, with Miami and Washington, DC scheduled to come.

In Austin, TX, where Waymo rides are also exclusively available on Uber, there are now 100 Waymo vehicles on the platform.

The permit includes day and night testing on city streets, rural roads and highways with speed limits of up to 65mph. Waymo insists: “Our vehicles can safely handle fog and light rain, and testing in those conditions is included in our permit. We will gradual
