8772 Volocopter has partnered with Skyports to build a landing pad for air taxis on the run-up public flight trials in Singapore during the second half of 2019.

Volocopter says its Volo-Ports are designed to provide passengers with a safe air taxi experience and allow industry regulators to interact with the infrastructure and provide feedback.

The Volo-Ports are also expected to:

• Enable real-life testing of the full customer journey to perfect the passenger experience.

• Showcase planned customer services, including pre-flight checks, passenger lounges and boarding procedures.

• Allow practical testing of ground operations and services, including battery swaps and charging, maintenance, safety and security.

Duncan Walker, managing director of Skyports, an owner of infrastructure for urban aviation, says each Volo-Port is designed to stand alone or connect to other ports in “numerous formations”.

“We have analysed the available spaces and movement dynamics in city centres across the world and recognize that infrastructure is a key enabler for the emerging UAM market,” he adds.

UK-based Brandlab, Graft Architects and professional services firm 7942 Arup won the international tender to produce the Volo-Port design.

Linda Stannieder, co-founder of Brandlab says the design of the architecture and services “link ground to air infrastructure in the smoothest way possible”.
