147 Vitronic is attracting a lot of interest here at the ITS World Congress with several important developments in electronic toll collection, ANPR and speed/red light enforcement, all based on the company’s advanced machine vision technology.

According to Daniel Scholz, sales director, machine vision is now state of the art and its capabilities easily outmatch other technologies. “Our lidar-based machine vision technology makes applications such as speed or red light enforcement possible in situations where other technologies fail: in bends or road work areas, when vehicles change lanes or tailgate. In other scenarios such as tolling or ANPR, machine vision systems are also able to detect, identify and classify vehicles at the same time,” says Scholz. “Lidar-based machine vision technology makes in-road equipment a thing of the past and allows operation and maintenance in free-flowing traffic.”

Centre of attention of the new developments at Vitronic’s stand is the fourth generation of its proven TollChecker single gantry solution. This latest generation, which will be deployed on the Ecotaxe project in France to be implemented on 15,000 km of French roads, combines excellent performance data with easy and flexible installation and service.

With PoliScan ANPR, Vitronic is also demonstrating how high performance licence plate reading can support modern police and security tasks.
Also being featured, Vitronic’s PoliScan systems for speed and red light enforcement are now available with a new touchscreen user interface. The new full ruggedised tablet PC optionally available, is used to make the operation of the PoliScan systems even easier than before. PoliScan systems simultaneously capture several vehicles in different lanes with rates of usable images that are up to three times higher than those of other systems, the company says.
