The 324 US Department of Transportation (USDOT) is partnering with ITS America to host two free public workshops on Thursday June 16 at ITS America 2016 San Jose. These workshops will discuss connected vehicle architecture, standards, and software tools, as well as provide new training on developing a plan for deploying a connected vehicle environment.

The Connected Vehicle Architecture Workshop, being held in the morning, will cover connected vehicle architecture, standards, and software tools. It will be followed at 1.00pm with Connected Vehicle 201 (CV 201) Training - Developing a Plan for Deploying a Connected Vehicle Environment. Both workshops will be held at the Almaden Ballroom, Hilton San Jose Hotel.

During the Connected Vehicle Architecture Workshop, from 9.00-12.30, the USDOT will provide an update on the connected vehicle architecture's evolution and the upcoming migration into the US National ITS Architecture.

Internationally cooperative efforts to provide detailed standards recommendations across connected vehicle architectures will also be discussed. The connected vehicle architecture provides a consistent framework to guide the planning and deployment of connected vehicle technologies.

Software Tools Introduction: The Systems Engineering Tool for Intelligent Transportation (SET-IT) allows implementers and decision-makers to develop their own connected vehicle project architectures for deployment. The training session will introduce the SET-IT tool, which can develop multi-layered, customised connected vehicle architectures that support pilot and initial operational deployments. Participants are encouraged to install SET-IT on their computers in advance to maximize the value of the training. The application requires an installed and activated 32-bit version of Microsoft Visio 2010 or higher. SET-IT is available at no cost from the following website: %$Linker: 2 External <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><dictionary /> 0 0 0 oLinkExternal www.iteris.com/cvria/html/resources/tools.html Click here for Iteris website false http://www.iteris.com/cvria/html/resources/tools.html false false%>. The Connected Vehicle 201 (CV 201) Training - Developing a Plan for Deploying a Connected Vehicle Environment workshop, being held from 1.00-5.00pm is the latest in a series of connected vehicle courses offered by the Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (ITS JPO) Professional Capacity Building program. CV 201 broadens each participant's understanding of the technology and systems engineering activities required to support a connected vehicle environment by describing activities and examples from the Connected Vehicle Pilot sites and other ITS deployments. The workshop introduces connected vehicle impacts on transportation planning and funding. It also details how to develop a meaningful concept of operations; develop system requirements for a connected vehicle deployment; and bring together resources, documentation, and findings to develop a comprehensive deployment plan. The workshop also introduces tools and resources to help empower organisations pursuing connected vehicle deployments, including the Connected Vehicle Reference Implementation Architecture, communications technologies and standards, and the Security Credential Management System. CV 201 applies the concepts introduced in the previous two courses in a practical way that is beneficial for organisations interested in connected vehicle deployments.
