Turkey’s Osman Gazi Bridge opens to traffic

Turkey’s Osman Gazi Bridge, part of the Gebze-Izmir toll motorway, and one of the largest projects operated by Egis, has been opened to traffic, providing a time-saving alternative to the road route around the Izmir bay and to the ferry service crossing the strait. Turkey’s Osman Gazi Bridge, part of the Gebze-Izmir toll motorway, and one of the largest projects operated by 7319 Egis, has been opened to traffic, providing a time-saving alternative to the road route around the Izmir bay and to the ferry service crossing the strait.

The 3.3 km suspension bridge has a central span of 1,550 metres, the fourth longest in the world for this type of bridge.

The project is operated by GIIB (Gebze-Izmir Isletme Ve Bakim), a 50/50 subsidiary of the Egis group and the concession company Otoyol.

    Egis is to provide operation and maintenance for India’s National Highway 7 (NH-7), a 73 km toll motorway connecting Rewa and Hanumana in the Indian federal state of Madhya Pradesh. Under the three-year contract awarded by concession company VEPL (Vindhyachal Expressway Private Limited), Egis will provide toll collection, route patrolling and incident management and routine maintenance of a section of the 40 km stretch of toll road which has one six-lane toll plaza.

    San Francisco Bay Bridge east span opens
    After years of delays and cost overruns, the newly built US$6.4 billion eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge opened with few problems other than the traffic snarls that were common around the toll plaza of the old span.
