TSS-2195 Transport Simulation Systems is promoting a recent deployment of 7320 Aimsun Online, its simulation-based traffic prediction system, in the San Diego area as part of a US DOT pilot program. The project, led by 1789 San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), won the Best of ITS Award presented at the opening plenary. Alex Estrella of SANDAG accepted the award on behalf of the team.

According to Matthew Juckes, senior project manager for TSS, Aimsun Online simulates and predicts traffic flow on a 21-mile corridor of I-15 in San Diego and feeds that information into Delcan’s Business Rules Engine. The integrated solution analyses the information, determines routes and comes up with a series of potential response plans. The plans are then evaluated in the Aimsun Online simulation engine and the plan that makes the best sense is then implemented across agencies.

The integrated corridor management system was deployed in March as the final phase in a six-year initiative sponsored by the 324 US Department of Transportation.

Turkish company Vendeka is looking to expand its operations internationally after completing what it describes as the first passive RFID-based tolling project in Europe. The company installed the system on the Bosphorus Bridge, which links Europe and Asia. Previously, tolling was achieved by a card-based system, but traffic jams were caused by drivers stopping to place their cards in the readers. This has been replaced by Vendeka’s passive RFID system. A major advantage, says Vendeka, is that a passive RFID
