TSS-2195 Transport Simulation Systems is showcasing its 7320 Aimsun Online real-time decision support system for traffic management. One of the most high-profile traffic management projects to use Aimsun Online as its prediction engine is the award-winning Interstate 15 Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) project led by the 1789 San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). At the core of the project is the configuration and implementation of a Decision Support System (DSS) using Aimsun Online.
“The DSS gives system managers comprehensive awareness of the current and predicted performance of the entire corridor,” says Matthew Juckes, senior project manager at TSS. “Now managers can take proactive steps to prevent system breakdown using enhanced controls across devices such as traffic signals, ramp meters, and dynamic message signs.”
Taking it one step further, earlier this year SANDAG completed a ‘Coordinated Test Plan’ for the first ever ‘fully automated’ multi-modal corridor handling of a freeway incident. TSS says this is one of the first times in the US that a traffic management decision has been successfully made entirely based on automatically triggered real-time simulations of the entire multi-modal transportation network.
Another recent innovation to come from the ICM project is the free 511 San Diego mobile application which is available for iOs and 1812 Android. Funded by the 324 US Department of Transportation, the app provides real-time predictions from Aimsun Online and system based advisories, letting users view predictive travel times on I-15; current traffic conditions; MTS bus routes, fares, arrival times; as well as real-time dynamic toll rates for the I-15 Express Lanes. Since its launch in May 2014 it has already had over 25,000 downloads.
Available for download from this week, the ITS World Congress ‘Kongressnavigator’is the first app to combine all the most important things at a congress. It helps visitors navigate through the city and the congress centre, and it integrates the conference programme, transportation schedules and tickets. All this comes together on the smartphone - now available for the iPhone, Android and as a mobile web application.
Scoot Networks will gradually deploy 500 electric scooters in Santiago, Chile, to offer citizens a more sustainable mobility option. The pilot programme will take place in Las Condes' business district as part of an agreement with mayor Joaquin Lavin. Gonzalo Cortez, general manager for Santiago, says the scooters reduce air pollution, make streets safer, keep money in the local economy and makes mobility more affordable. In June, Scoot delivered 500 electric scooters and 1,000 electric bicycles in
This year’s European Transport Conference, which takes place on 28-30 September in Frankfurt, Germany, will look at the latest research and developments in local public transport across Europe and beyond. Delegates will also have the opportunity to take part in an afternoon visit to see the public transport system in Offenbach, a small city close to Frankfurt.
With the UK moving towards a regulated environment, the conference will discuss the legal and economic framework and how this will work as other
