TSS-2195 Transport Simulation Systems is showcasing its 7320 Aimsun Online real-time decision support system for traffic management. One of the most high-profile traffic management projects to use Aimsun Online as its prediction engine is the award-winning Interstate 15 Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) project led by the 1789 San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). At the core of the project is the configuration and implementation of a Decision Support System (DSS) using Aimsun Online.
“The DSS gives system managers comprehensive awareness of the current and predicted performance of the entire corridor,” says Matthew Juckes, senior project manager at TSS. “Now managers can take proactive steps to prevent system breakdown using enhanced controls across devices such as traffic signals, ramp meters, and dynamic message signs.”
Taking it one step further, earlier this year SANDAG completed a ‘Coordinated Test Plan’ for the first ever ‘fully automated’ multi-modal corridor handling of a freeway incident. TSS says this is one of the first times in the US that a traffic management decision has been successfully made entirely based on automatically triggered real-time simulations of the entire multi-modal transportation network.
Another recent innovation to come from the ICM project is the free 511 San Diego mobile application which is available for iOs and 1812 Android. Funded by the 324 US Department of Transportation, the app provides real-time predictions from Aimsun Online and system based advisories, letting users view predictive travel times on I-15; current traffic conditions; MTS bus routes, fares, arrival times; as well as real-time dynamic toll rates for the I-15 Express Lanes. Since its launch in May 2014 it has already had over 25,000 downloads.
The next Compass4D combined workshop and showcase event on the real deployment of ITS takes place at the Automotive Campus in Helmond in the Netherlands on 4 April.
The workshop will discuss the actions needed to deploy ITS: What cities should do and what they expect from the industry; The role of European, national and local authorities; and the appropriate business models to guarantee a successful C-ITS deployment. The workshop will also show some of the ITS services for safer and cleaner transport in
ITS New Mexico’s 2015 award has gone to the state’s Bernalillo County for establishing implementation criteria for adaptive traffic control and the installation of the state’s first system on Alameda Boulevard in Albuquerque. This uses Rhythm Engineering’s InSync Technology.
Leading investors spelt out the attractiveness of the ITS space for investment yesterday as they met with the technology specialists at the start of ITS America’s 22nd Annual Meeting. This was the continuation of an initiative launched by ITSA at the 2011 ITS World Congress in Orlando, creating a forum for financial firms to meet with the ITS companies developing products and services ripe for investment.
