TSS-2195 Transport Simulation Systems is showcasing its 7320 Aimsun Online real-time decision support system for traffic management. One of the most high-profile traffic management projects to use Aimsun Online as its prediction engine is the award-winning Interstate 15 Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) project led by the 1789 San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). At the core of the project is the configuration and implementation of a Decision Support System (DSS) using Aimsun Online.
“The DSS gives system managers comprehensive awareness of the current and predicted performance of the entire corridor,” says Matthew Juckes, senior project manager at TSS. “Now managers can take proactive steps to prevent system breakdown using enhanced controls across devices such as traffic signals, ramp meters, and dynamic message signs.”
Taking it one step further, earlier this year SANDAG completed a ‘Coordinated Test Plan’ for the first ever ‘fully automated’ multi-modal corridor handling of a freeway incident. TSS says this is one of the first times in the US that a traffic management decision has been successfully made entirely based on automatically triggered real-time simulations of the entire multi-modal transportation network.
Another recent innovation to come from the ICM project is the free 511 San Diego mobile application which is available for iOs and 1812 Android. Funded by the 324 US Department of Transportation, the app provides real-time predictions from Aimsun Online and system based advisories, letting users view predictive travel times on I-15; current traffic conditions; MTS bus routes, fares, arrival times; as well as real-time dynamic toll rates for the I-15 Express Lanes. Since its launch in May 2014 it has already had over 25,000 downloads.
Traficon has brought several exciting new technologies to the ITS World Congress. Earlier this year, the company acquired Sumit, a provider of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology. Traficon has been working ever since to incorporate the Sumit technology into its own portfolio and visitors to its stand can see the result here – Eye-D, a dedicated Traficon camera product for intersection enforcement.
Among a range of innovations that US-headquartered Transpo Industries will bring to Intertraffic Amsterdam 2014 is Screen- Safe, a work zone and median glare safety shield. According to the company, this new product addresses the maintenance issues of the plastic ‘paddle’ type of glare screens that have dominated the market over the last few years.
Screen-Safe is made from a unique double-reversed corrugated (DRC) fabric, formed from hot-dipped galvanized sheet steel. The DRC fabric is powder-coated to

Traficon will bring some exciting new technologies to the ITS World Congress. Next to its known video detection solutions for cities, highways and tunnels, the company will also highlight several innovations in AID, intersection enforcement, and intelligent parking. Among a number of new automatic incident detection (AID) products which will be featured will be Traficon’s versatile AID solution for PTZ cameras. VIP-PTZ adds automatic incident detection to pan-tilt-zoom cameras in order to improve road safet
