TSS demonstrates Aimsun Online real-time decision support system

The 16 Aimsun Online real-time decision support system for traffic management is taking centre stage at the TSS-Transport Simulation Systems (TSS) stand. Its dynamic, high-speed simulation of large areas allows traffic operators to accurately forecast the future network flow patterns that will result from a particular traffic management or information provision strategy.

TSS is highlighting the fact that, among other projects, Aimsun Online has been selected as the simulation-based subsystem in the decision support system (DSS) demonstrator in the integrated corridor management (ICM) initiative in San Diego, California. With the 1789 San Diego Association of Governments (Sandag) heading the San Diego ICM team, the cutting edge system is expected to go live in spring 2013 and lead the way for further implementation of ICM throughout the United States as other FHWA/USDOT sponsored sites go into the evaluation stage.
Alexandre Torday, consulting director of TSS, believes that Aimsun Online can help resolve the key questions of accurate prediction, timely information, strategy impact and DSS flexibility under duress.

“Real-time simulation has the potential to transform traffic management, offering unprecedented insights into the network under management, which translates into increased cost-efficiency and reduced environmental impact,” Torday told The Daily News.

“The ability to forecast and simulate congestion and capacity imbalances in ‘near-real-time’ is central to the vision for an ICM solution for San Diego. Aimsun Online’s conceptual architecture ensures that what is being simulated reflects the actual state of the network while also providing the necessary scalability and quick response times.”
