Co-ordinated adaptive traffic light control is a getting a lot of attention on the World Congress exhibition floor, according to 139 TransCore which is displaying the SCATS system.

“The system recalculates and implements the optimal light timing every cycle, so traffic controllers don’t have to set up a number of pre-defined scenarios – it does it all itself,” said TransCore’s Travis White.

If congestion stretches several blocks then all the lights on the system will be co-ordinated to deal with the backlog and during quiet times the green periods are reduced so that pedestrians are not kept waiting unnecessarily.

The optional .Car2x extends these multi‐bus tools by adding an IEEE 802.11p conformant WLAN channel (pWLAN). This permits direct analysis of both the Car2x‐specific application protocols and the application messages overlaid on them. In the Car2x field this might be the Cooperative Awar

For instance, TomTom’s HD Flow product delivers speed information for all roads so that traffic flow on the entire road network can be visualised and evaluated. This means that traffic management centres can react more quickly to congestion and improve the
