The European Transport Research Alliance (ETRA) has organised a one day conference on ways towards facilitating the wider and more balanced use of (large) transport research infrastructures in Europe as well as facilitating the linking of relevant research data bases and exchanges of data. The idea is to promote this cooperation and networking of research infrastructures as part of the process for creating the ERA–T, the European Research Area in the field of transport.

The conference takes place on 10 October at Diamant, Brussels, Belgium, following the final EUTRAIN conference on 9 October.

Specific objectives include: joint identification of priorities and ways of collaboration between transport research organisations in using their large scale research infrastructures; assessment the current state of play and current state of progress in achieving such collaboration; exploration of the opportunities for improving more integrated, more institutionalised and more widespread use of such infrastructures in the future as part of the unified European research space in the field of surface transport; and to form potential recommendations for the future.

The Conference is organised within the framework of the final conference of the EUTRAIN (European Transport Research Area International Cooperation activities) project, an EU funded FP7 project in which several ETRA partners participate.

The final EUTRAIN conference will include a number of presentations and recommendations on key issues of international transport research cooperation, including thematic interests, programming and governance issues, training and human resource issues, etc.
