The European Traffic Police Network (650 TISPOL) has announced some of its speakers for the International Road Policing And Road Safety Conference 2018 ahead of the opening of its delegate and exhibitor bookings. The event will bring together politicians, policy makers, road safety professionals and senior police officers for an update and discussion at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester Airport, from the 9-10 October.

Alan Tapp, professor of marketing at the Bristol Social Marketing Centre, University of the West of England, will be the conference's keynote speaker. He has more than 100 publications and has led or been involved in projects funded over £1m ($1.3m). Tapp is said to be placed to motivate roads policing and road safety professionals on the subject of 'Expanding Our Horizons' through his partnerships. These include the Department for Transport (DfT), Central Office of Information, the Department of Health, HM Treasury, Sport England and a variety of regional and local authorities and NHS trusts.

His main research interests include how social and critical marketing can help change embedded cultures and social norms. Tapp is currently leading a large-scale research project on young drivers and behaviour change, funded by The Road Safety Trust and the DfT.

Runar Karlsen, chief of the Norwegian National Traffic Police, will deliver the country's blueprint for success in policing roads while also explaining the benefits of Automatic Number Plate Recognition. He will also explore the role of roadside evidential alcohol and drug testing and their participation in Project Edward.

Anthony Bangham, National Police Chiefs' Council lead for roads policing and chief constable of West Mercia, will provide an update on roads policing priorities for England and Wales. In addition, he will reflect on the value of enforcement as a crucial part of reducing death and serious injury on UK roads.
