Thales to upgrade Norwegian railway

Thales has announced that it has been awarded a framework contract by the Norwegian rail administrator, Jernbaneverket (JBV), to supply a new railway signal interlocking system. The first three projects in the contract, worth over US$41,400,000, are for new signalling systems for the Sandnes-Stavanger line, the Ganddal cargo terminal and Høvik station.

596 Thales has announced that it has been awarded a framework contract by the Norwegian rail administrator, 6523 Jernbaneverket (JBV), to supply a new railway signal interlocking system. The first three projects in the contract, worth over US$41,400,000, are for new signalling systems for the Sandnes-Stavanger line, the Ganddal cargo terminal and Høvik station.

This contract will secure JBV’s need for conventional signalling systems until the next generation of digital signalling solutions and automatic traffic control, as required by the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) is in place. Thales has already successfully installed the interlocking system on a number of critical lines in Finland and is currently implementing the new ERTMS standard for digital signalling in Denmark.

    Thales has been awarded a contract by IHI Corporation to re-signal the automated people mover (APM) located within Hong Kong international airport, with a state-of-the-art solution. The company will supply its radio-based SelTrac CBTC system for the existing lines and for a planned extension to the Midfield Concourse, which will service a third runway. The CBTC technology will also be applied to both existing and new trains circulating on the line. Project completion is scheduled for 2014.

    Thales scoops Hong Kong signalling contract
    Thales has been awarded a contract by Hong Kong’s metro operator, MTR Corporation, to provide signalling technology for Shatin to Central Link Phase 1 segment of the Hong Kong metro using a communications-based train control (CBTC) system. To provide fully automatic train operation the contract includes the modernisation of the Ma On Shan Line and West Rail Line lines, where Thales previously installed its CBTC solution in 2003/04.

    Thales to implement traffic control system on Spanish rail line
    Spanish railway infrastructure administrator Adif has awarded Thales a US$22 million contract for the deployment of a traffic control system and the improvement of security and communications on the 57.4 km Algeciras-Gaucín railway section in Spain.
