1954 Isolux-Corsan has awarded 134 Telvent a contract to implement its SmartMobility Light Rail solution for a new light rail system in the Algerian city of Oran. Comprising 32 stations along its 18-kilometre route, the new light rail system is scheduled to begin operating by 2011.

The system to be installed by Telvent is based on selective light rail detection, which will enable the system to determine whenever the light rail is approaching an intersection. Once detected, the system will give priority to the light rail over private transportation.

Specifically, Telvent will develop and start up the priority system, in addition to the traffic regulators and the LED-type technology-based road signalling systems. It is claimed that this technology contributes to obtaining energy savings of up to 70 per cent with respect to the costs generated by current technology.
