Six new ITS America board members

ITS America has appointed six new members to its board of directors, while Peter Sweatman, director of the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, who previously served as Vice-Chair, takes over as the Board Chair. The Board also reappointed Jill Ingrassia, managing director, Government Relations and Traffic Safety Advocacy, AAA and Gerry Mooney, general manager, Global Smarter Cities, IMB Corporation.

RSS560 ITS America has appointed six new members to its board of directors, while Peter Sweatman, director of the 5647 University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, who previously served as Vice-Chair, takes over as the Board Chair. The Board also reappointed Jill Ingrassia, managing director, Government Relations and Traffic Safety Advocacy, 4939 AAA and Gerry Mooney, general manager, Global Smarter Cities, 62 IBM Corporation.

The six new board members are:

  • Richard Clasby, president & CEO, 5225 Help Inc.

  • Steven Dellenback, Ph.D., Intelligent Systems Department, 5690 Southwest Research Institute

  • Link Hoewing, VP of Internet & Technology Policy, 1984 Verizon

  • Steve Kenner, global director for Automotive Safety, 278 Ford Motor Company

  • Chris Murray, president & CEO, 81 Kapsch, North America

  • Alice Tornquist, VP, Government Affairs, 213 Qualcomm, Inc.

Former House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman James Oberstar and Gerald Conover, who previously advocated for ITS at Ford, were on hand to receive the honors.

    American Telephone & Telegraph (AT&T), Ford, Nokia and Qualcomm Technologies are teaming up with the intention of accelerating the development of connected cars by trailing Cellular-V2X (C-V2X) technologies in the U.S. These tests are aimed at showing automakers and road operators the anticipated cost-efficient benefits associated with embedded C-V2X in vehicles and synergies between the deployment of cellular base stations and roadside infrastructure. Initial testing is expected to begin later this year.

  • China-Sweden research centre for traffic safety opens
    December 24, 2012
    The China-Sweden Research Centre for Traffic Safety has been officially inaugurated in Beijing, attended by representatives of Volvo Cars and other research partners in the project, including Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Volvo Group, the Chinese Ministry of Transport's Research Institute of Highway and Tongji University in Shanghai. The governments of Sweden and China will contribute to fund the research centre.
