Shortlist for 2012 Transport Achievement Award announced

The International Transport Forum at the OECD, an intergovernmental organisation for the transport sector that comprises 53 countries, has announced the projects shortlisted for its 2012 Transport Achievement Award that honours transport projects that have demonstrated excellence in seamlessly connecting people, infrastructure or markets.

RSSThe 998 International Transport Forum at the OECD, an intergovernmental organisation for the transport sector that comprises 53 countries, has announced the projects shortlisted for its 2012 Transport Achievement Award that honours transport projects that have demonstrated excellence in seamlessly connecting people, infrastructure or markets.

From this year’s applications, the award jury has short-listed the following high quality projects from Australia, Austria, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom, as potentially worthy of the Transport Achievement Award (listed in alphabetical order):

  • DSB S-tog, Denmark
  • 4729 East Japan Railway Company, Japan
  • 918 Land Transport Authority, Singapore
  • 4727 Stagecoach South Western Trains Ltd, UK
  • 485 Toll Collect and 750 ASFINAG, Germany and Austria
  • Toyama City/Toyama Light Rail/Toyama Chihou Tetsudo Inc, Japan
  • 1466 Transport for London, Association of Train Operating companies and 378 Cubic, UK
  • Transport for London – Countdown, UK
  • 4728 VicRoads, Australia
  • 4203 Wiener Linien/Verkehrsverbund Ost Region, Austria

The winner of the Transport Achievement Award will be honoured at a ceremony at the International Transport Forum’s Annual Summit in Leipzig, Germany, on Thursday 3 May.

    The Björn Steiger Stiftung, a German foundation originally set up to improve the response time emergency services need to help injury victims, has announced that the emergency telephones on federal, state and county roads will be abolished in all federal states in Germany except Baden-Württemberg. The foundation attributed the decision to cost reasons but also pointed out that the emergency telephones were becoming more and more superfluous due to mobile location technology.

  • Funding for EV battery recycling research

    Axeon has announced it is one of six British companies to receive funding from the UK's Technology Strategy Board for feasibility studies into the recycling and re-use of batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles. As well as researching the recycling process, the project will look at how to determine end-of-life, which is still a major issue with automotive batteries for both manufacturers and consumers.
