Sensys Networks has deployed wireless sensors at 12 intersections and two pedestrian crossings as part of an ITS project in a Slovakian city.

The Smart Trnava initiative has seen significant travel time reductions on some routes. Sensys says its technology enabled accurate data collection, real-time traffic analysis, and improved decision-making to optimise traffic flow and ensure pedestrian safety.

Commissioned by the city of Trnava, the project uses the Invipo integration platform and is led by traffic tech firm Alam. It incorporates dynamic traffic management, Bluetooth travel time detectors and real-time traffic monitoring, enabling live traffic updates for road users.

Key streets saw travel time reductions of up to 50%, easing congestion during peak hours, while advanced signal systems increased intersection capacity by nearly 9%. Sensys says improved traffic flow leads to reduced emissions, and in future Trnava plans to integrate additional smart technologies, such as enhanced environmental monitoring and public transport optimisation.

Traffic engineers can use the latest advances in vision technology to streamline and enhance traffic management. The idea of using one camera to perform all functions at an intersection is attractive to authorities for many reasons and camera supplier Gridsmart says it can make this happen. Its Bell Camera offers a horizon to horizon view that includes the centre of the intersection where vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians cross paths and it can be used for traffic light actuation, traffic data collection a
