Energy management specialist 729 Schneider Electric has launched traffic management solution 7864 EcoTrafiX for cities and highways operators.

EcoTrafiX is a suite of equipment, software and services that is designed to allow customers to predict and respond to road problems.

Its component parts include Command TM, which commands real-time city and highway signals  and devices; Expert TM, which encompasses several modules to optimise traffic; and Mobility TM, which enables collaboration on events between multiple agencies or between several departments within an agency.

The modular nature of the system makes it very scalable, said Steve Haddix, vice-president, professional and field services transportation for North America.

If a city or highway operator had a traffic control system with which it was happy, it could retain it and EcoTrafiX would fit round it, he said. Similarly, if a traffic management system expanded to take in several agencies, they could install EcoTrafiX, which provided an integrated approach without forcing the agencies to give up the autonomy of their existing systems.
