Q-Free has announced a multi-year agreement, following a competitive bid, with Iowa Department of Transportation to update its statewide advanced traffic management system (ATMS).
Iowa DoT will deploy multiple modules of Q-Free's Kinetic Mobility platform, including Events, Signs, Travel Time, Weather, Corridors and Video.
The deal includes an 18-month set-up and deployment phase followed by a minimum two-year maintenance agreement.
Iowa DoT manages more than 15,450km of roads and collaborates with more than 600 third-party users including maintenance garages, 911/law enforcement (e911) centres and neighbouring states, sharing crucial road information.
Q-Free supplied the agency’s legacy ATMS. “We’ve worked closely with them for years, including on the first cloud-hosted ATMS in the nation, and they’ve consistently been leaders in delivering top-tier service to residents and visitors alike,” said Whitney Nottage, executive vice president of traffic management at Q-Free.
“With Kinetic Mobility, they’re now getting a modular platform that not only puts them at the forefront of today’s technology but also prepares them for the future.”
Christoper Butler, Q-Free’s senior project manager for Iowa, believes the breadth, modularity and security of Kinetic Mobility, combined with the ability to demonstrate it live, set Q-Free apart during the selection process.
“Iowa responded very strongly to seeing the platform’s functionality and ease of use in real time,” he said. “When prospective customers see it in action, they often experience that 'lightbulb' moment, recognising just how flexible the platform is in meeting their unique needs.”
Kinetic Mobility was also rolled out in West Virginia earlier this year.
