598 Panasonic has launched an electric vehicle (EV) charging service in India with the aim of helping fleets owners manage their vehicles more efficiently.

Panasonic says its Nymbus service combines physical components such as charging stations, swap stations, on board charges, telematics systems and the virtual components like cloud service, analytics, intuitive dashboard, and artificial intelligence.

Initially, Panasonic will provide the charging service for 150 electric three wheelers offered by SmartE and on 25 qQuick 2 wheelers in Delhi.

Goldie Srivastava, co-founder and CEO, SmartE, says: “Panasonic's technology enabled charging service would not only help us optimise our charging infrastructure but also help achieve operational efficiencies through real time data generation.”

Aishwarya Kachhal, founder, qQuick says the partnership will “provide customers personal, accessible, affordable and green mobility”.

The vehicles will be equipped with telematics sensors, allowing users to generate real-time data and reports from continuous operation.

According to Panasonic, these systems will enable fleet managers to find different li-ion battery packs and monitor vehicle data usage.

Additionally, the cloud and app service will allow EV drivers and fleet owners to search and navigate to the nearest charging point.

Mobility pricing is the best way of sustaining and enhancing mobility, argues Moving Forward Consulting’s Josef Czako. Mobility pricing (MP) is effectively the culmination of the ‘user pays’ principle and has been referred to in many policy discussions about electronic toll collection, road user charging (RUC), and pricing. MP not only reflects the ‘use more, pay more’ nature of RUC, it also takes account of the external cost of journeys including pollution, noise, the cost of congestion and accidents.
