NJ Transit to install Conduent 3D fare gates

Two of the eight-foot-high gates will be put in place initially, with 72 overall

Conduent Transportation is to install its 3D fare gates at two stations in New Jersey, US.

The new gates, which are nearly eight feet tall, are at the Secaucus Junction and Newark Liberty International Airport stations on NJ Transit's network.

They will be put in place in the coming months, and the contract is for 72 gates to be installed in all, as part of a five-year deal around contactless fare collection.

Adam Appleby, group president, public sector solutions at Conduent, says: “This innovative technology modernises fare collection and helps ensure fair access to a transit system that benefits the entire region.”

The contract with NJ Transit follows a similar installation for transportation agency Septa in Philadelphia, which is for 100 gates at nine stations.

This deal followed a successful pilot programme at one station, where the integration of 3D fare gates and transit police efforts to deter fare evasion led to an increase in annual revenue for Septa.
