Transport scheduling software provider Siscog has been acquired by Modaxo, the umbrella group for numerous technology companies in the public transportation arena.

Headquartered in Portugal, Siscog (Sistemas Cognitivos) was founded in 1986 by Professors João Pavão Martins and Ernesto Morgado and says it has been a pioneer in applying artificial intelligence and operational research to transport planning.

Siscog's portfolio consists of Ontime, for creating and updating timetables; Fleet, for scheduling and managing vehicles; Railnode, for scheduling and managing local resources; and Crews, for scheduling and managing staff.

Clients include Lisbon Metro and London Underground, as well as suburban rail operators in Copenhagen and Barcelona.

Ferdinand Lucke, newly-appointed CEO of Siscog, says: “We have a shared vision for how innovative technology can transform transport operations, and the Siscog team can benefit from the additional support that comes with being part of the Modaxo network.”

The co-founders "will continue to support the company as consultants during the transition period", Modaxo says.

Last year, Modaxo - which is the transportation arm of Constellation Software - bought the kerbside management and parking business of Conduent for $230 million and rebranded it as Trellint.

Siscog represents Modaxo's first acquisition in the Iberian peninsula, and expands its footprint in Europe.
