Malta announces EV incentives

The government of Malta has launched a major campaign to encourage the islands’ drivers to switch to electric vehicles by offering a 25 per cent government rebate of up to €4,000 (US$4,950) on the purchase of an EV, preferential parking spots and the promise of some 100 charging points to be installed across the Malta and Gozo. The licence for EVs has already been reduced from €75 to €10.

    Siemens switches US city of Manchester to LED street lights
    Siemens is switching 9,000 street lights to LED technology in the US city of Manchester in New Hampshire. Some 4,500 lamps have already been refitted and the work should be completed by the end of September. Siemens will also be responsible for service and maintenance work. Siemens says LED technology reduces power consumption by 60 per cent and will bring the city considerable financial benefits, with annual savings of US$500,000 in terms of energy and maintenance costs such as replacing light bulbs.

    New research from insurance price comparison website Confused.com has found that there are currently nearly 54,000 learner drivers in the UK who have penalty points on their provisional licence.
