Luxembourg was one of the first cities in Europe to implement buses with hybrid technology and today 14 Volvo 7900 hybrids operate in the city.

Volvo 7900 electric hybrid buses are with an electric motor, batteries and a small diesel engine and can be powered by electricity for up to 70 per cent of their operating time.

The modular design of ABB bus chargers offers charging power of 150 kW, 300 kW or 450 kW. They are simple to integrate into existing bus lines; an inverted pantograph enables use of a low-cost and low weight interface on roof of the bus.

According to a study by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, electric cars might pollute much more than petrol or diesel-powered cars. Researchers found greenhouse gas emissions rose dramatically if coal was used to produce the electricity. Electric car factories also emitted more toxic waste than conventional car factories, claims their report in the Journal of Industrial Energy. However, in some cases electric cars still made sense, the researchers said.
