A joint venture comprising Kapsch TrafficCom, Indra and Worldline has been awarded a speed enforcement support contract in Spain.

Worth €83m, the deal from the Spanish federal traffic authority DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) runs until the end of 2027.

It covers support and technical assistance and management of the automated complaint processing centre in the city of Léon.

The DGT has more than 400 pieces of hardware along Spain's road network, including speed measurement equipment and cameras, and these will be maintained by the joint venture companies.

“Speed limit enforcement is one of the key elements of improving road safety, and we are proud that the DGT continues to trust us," says Javier Aguirre, MD of Kapsch TrafficCom Spain and Portugal.

The contract covers the management of automated complaints based on video surveillance, the provision of general services to drivers, and the ongoing development and maintenance of the systems, as well as other support tasks for provincial traffic HQ and central services.

So far, the system has processed more than three million fines.
