Kapsch awarded Polish GSM-R contract

Polish rail infrastructure manager PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK) has awarded Kapsch CarrierCom a US$12 million contract to design and install GSM-R equipment for the roll-out of European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) on the 148 km Legnica - Wrocław - Opole section of corridor E30. Polish rail infrastructure manager PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK) has awarded 81 Kapsch CarrierCom a US$12 million contract to design and install GSM-R equipment for the roll-out of European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) on the 148 km Legnica - Wrocław - Opole section of corridor E30.

The contract covers the expansion of existing base station controller (BSC) and transcoder unit infrastructure, together with the installation of thirty-two BTS 9000 base stations at sixteen locations. Kapsch is to undertake the installation work in co-operation with local partner Torpol.

The project is scheduled for completion in two years, with a five-year warranty period during which Kapsch will provide technical support.
