ITS South Africa i-Transport

ITS South Africa is preparing for the biennial i-Transport Conference and Exhibition which takes place on 3-4 September 2013 at the Gallagher Convention Center in Midrand. 6992 ITS South Africa is preparing for the biennial i-Transport Conference and Exhibition which takes place on 3-4 September 2013 at the Gallagher Convention Center in Midrand. The conference has the theme ‘Enabling ITS Integration’ and is designed to bring together the country’s key ITS stakeholders to benchmark against global best practice, share experiences and identify new opportunities and solutions.There will be four parallel sessions: ITS and Public Transport; Traffic Management and Operations; ITS Lifecycle Sustainability and Funding and; Road Safety. ITS South Africa says the i-Transport Conference and Exhibition is the country’s premier ITS event. This year’s event is likely to take on added significance as the envisaged national transport master plan is expected to include proposals for tolling South African roads. According to Transport Minister Ben Martins, it was impossible for the fiscus to fund the road infrastructure backlog. Currently about 17% of South Africa’s road network is tolled.
