In the meantime, everyone in the host city of Vienna is getting ready to welcome visitors to this, the 19th Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress. Throughout the 5-day event, prominent locations in the ‘best city in the world’ (Mercer Quality of Living Survey in 2009, 2010, and 2011) will hold different elements of the congress, and everything is being hosted by the BMVIT (4792 Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology), and organised by 374 Ertico, an umbrella organisation for ITS in Europe. The theme of this year’s congress is “smarter on the way,” and the organisers hope to “throw a spotlight on the ways in which user-friendly ITS can benefit both private and commercial customers.” Also, there will be a lot of discussion around “connecting modes of transport to make traffic systems flow more easily.”

The analytics company's latest report has identified the A1 from Sheffield to Edinburgh as the most suitable corridor for testing highly automated vehicles (HAV).

Zenuity, a joint venture between vehicle solution manufacturer Veoneer and Volvo Cars, is to trial self-driving cars on Swedish highways at a maximum speed of 80km/h.
Dennis Nobelius, CEO at Zenuity, says the vehicles will collect important data and improve the company’s safety functions to make unsupervised cars a reality.
