The ITS European Congress 2014 in Helsinki will see a host of intelligent vehicle demonstrations, including the iMobility Challenge event, eco-driving test-drives and ecoDriver workshop.

The iMobility Challenge on 16 June will present test drives and interactive displays of new vehicle technologies to all visitors from 12:00 to 19:00.

After the opening ceremony at 14:15, a major highlight of the event will be the participation of Williams 1685 Mercedes F1 Driver, Valtteri Bottas, who will take a short driving tour of Helsinki city. His driving style will be monitored to determine his ‘ecodriving’ score. Every visitor will then have a chance to take a drive and compare how their driving abilities compare to those of a professional F1 driver.

Other test rides and demonstrations that visitors will be able to try include: 609 Volvo’s City Safety autonomous braking system; parking assistance systems from Citrooen and 278 Ford; 838 Nissan leaf and Ford Focus electric cars; and demonstrations of intelligent ways to make people drive smarter by Helpten and Driveco.

The agenda, full list of participating companies, full demonstration guide and floor plan, can be found %$Linker: 2 External <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><dictionary /> 0 0 0 oLinkExternal here Visit: http://www.itsineurope.com/its10/index.php/programme/special-events/demonstrations false http://www.itsineurope.com/its10/index.php/programme/special-events/demonstrations false false%>.

Visitors can also take part in eco-driving test-drives, an opportunity to see how their energy efficient driving skills compare to those of a professional racing driver. For more information, contact Gabriel Simcic, Senior Project Manager, FIA Region I, [email protected] +32 2 282 0817.

In addition, the ecoDriver project is organising a discussion workshop at the Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre (Messukeskus) on 16 June from 10:00 to 12:00 (Finnish time).

The takes place during the crucial field operational test (FOT) phase of the project and will briefly present the project goals and progress and discuss topics such as: Is there a role for green driving support systems as one mechanism for energy savings and how much can they contribute?; Will more fuel-efficient vehicles eliminate the need for such technologies?; Do we need an equivalent to 6437 Euro NCAP for such systems – an Energy Saving Assessment Programme (ESAP) - in order to promote them to consumers?
